Devastation left by rioters in some of the areas in cities has to be rebuilt, infrastructure has to be rebuilt, businesses, police stations, state and city buildings all have to be repaired. Not to mention all the automobiles that have been destroyed. No doubt insurance rates will will be increased, who’s going to pay for it?
This was not some terrible disaster from a storm or an earthquake; this was a case of mere criminals gone wild with the approval of Governors, Mayors and Police Chiefs. They are guilty of abetting law breaking criminals. They let it happen and even gave their support by calling it a peaceful protest. All the while they were looting, robbing, and burning. All these people that let this happen should be fired, without any state benefits such as retirement or medical.
Ever since the riots at Ferguson, any authorities with half a brain would have realized that it would be a good idea to prepare for the possibility that this could happen in any city. If they had been paying attention there has been many incidents since then and they all start the same way with a peaceful protest until enough gather then all hell breaks loose. In 2016, Federal authorities sent out warnings to all state and local officials about the increasing confrontational and dangerous extremist groups such as BLM and Antifa. But apparently they did not pay attention. They had no contingency plans or strategy in place to keep the city safe. And now because of their incompetence they have a mess.
So now the hard working tax payer who destroyed nothing is sentenced to an increase in taxes to pay for the damage. I know in Washington State they are feverishly working on trying to put in place an increase in taxes and also new taxes. They are punishing the tax payers for their lack of preparedness.
Let’s start cutting the budget with illuminating all non-essential spending like the much not needed light rail project, the unreliable energy projects, bike trails, Performing Arts, pay increases, stop giving the Nigerians hundreds of millions of dollars of Washington State unemployment benefits and there is much, much more that can be cut. When everything that is not necessary has been cut and no excessive spending, then maybe a temporary tax to get everything repaired could be put in.
But if they maintain their passiveness to be unprepared to protect and defend the cities, this cycle of destroying and burning will just continue. Until they change their way of dealing with the people that want to do harm, there is no reason to keep putting money into fixing things so the can just be torn apart again.
